Non-viable eggs can be a biological hazard, especially when they contain a dead embryo or are rotten. In many cases these eggs hold pathogenic bacteria, which can be transmitted by contact (e.g. needles or vacuum naps) or airborne when these eggs break or explode during take-out, injection or transfer.
The Vinovo Select Line™ improves the vaccination and transfer procedure by accurate detection of living embryos and reversing the sequence of egg processing. First only the viable eggs are vaccinated and transferred to the hatcher baskets. The non-viable eggs (e.a. infertile and eggs with dead embryos) remain untouched in the setter tray, which is moved to a separate waste room where the infertile eggs can be taken out for resource recovery and the remaining dead eggs for disposal. Because this procedure takes place in a separate room and eggs with dead embryos or “bangers” do not enter the hatchers anymore, the spread of pathogens is prevented.
This revolutionary change in procedure and the fact that contaminated eggs or eggs with dead embryos are excluded from the remaining production process, creates a more hygienic and safer environment during in-ovo vaccination, hatching and processing of the chicks.

The Live Embryo Detection™ uses heartbeat technology to accurately indicate which eggs contain a living embryo and classifies the non-viable eggs as infertile, early or late dead embryos. Exactly knowing the content of each egg, enables selective processing during in-ovo vaccination, egg transfer and waste discharge.

Higher vaccine efficacy
In a practice eggs are never in a perfect straight position in a setter tray. When injecting these eggs as they are positioned in the setter tray, they are not penetrated exactly at the top and center of the egg. This causes inaccurate delivery and thus lower efficacy rates of the vaccine. The Vinovo Select Inject™ lifts the viable eggs gently out of the setter tray and re-positions each egg in a perfect perpendicular position under the injection tools, by means of a patent pending egg holder. This ensures that the eggs are penetrated at the top of the egg and the tip of the needle is positioned in the correct compartment inside the egg (amnion cavity or embryo) to deliver the vaccine. The possibility to adjust the needle dept based on the average egg size of each flock further improves the accuracy of vaccine placement and thus protection of the birds.
Durable and save injection method
The Vinovo Select Inject™ uses a punch + needle as injection method. A robust punch first penetrates the egg shell and an inside needle safely delivers the vaccine in the right location inside the egg. This is a proven technology that is both durable and hygienic. Compared to single needle systems, it prevents damage or blockage of the needle and ensures a reliable vaccine delivery.
Less vaccine wasted
Accurate detection of living embryos by means of heartbeat sensors and selective injection of only these viable eggs, prevents vaccine wastage due to useless injection of non-viable eggs. Additional vaccine saving compared to traditional techniques is 3-5%, depending on egg quality.

New hygiene enhancing gripper technology
Another hygienic improvement is realized by selective transfer of the viable eggs by use of mechanical grippers. The grippers gently pinch the eggs during transfer, do not touch the area of injection and prevent air movement inside the eggs.
